Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturer: Prof. d-r Liljana Gavrilovska
Course Goals (acquired competencies): Upon finishing the course it is expected that the student will understand the notions of reconfigurability, cooperation and adaptation in telecommunication networks and demonstrate the ability to perform scientific work in the area.
Subject of the course content: Reconfiguration in telecommunications systems. Network and user reconfiguration. Vertical handover. Transparency. End-to-end QoS in heterogeneous networks. Standardization activities (IEEE 802.21). Algorithms for QoS, mobility management and resource reconfiguration in heterogeneous scenarios. Usage of Medium Independent Handover (MIH). Cooperation in telecommunications networks. Cognition in networks. Software Defined Radio (SDR). Design of intelligent devices with multiple interfaces. Design of infrastructure components of cognitive networks. Standardization (IEEE 802.22). Adaptation and reconfiguration of protocol stack layers. Cross-layering in reconfigurable networks under static and dynamic conditions. Application of machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. Cross-layering relations with cooperation and cognition. Resource reconfiguration. Channel allocation strategies (static and dynamic). Application of agents. Dynamic spectrum usage and management. Advanced algorithms. Composite Radio Environment (CRE). Protocol boosters. Reconfiguration in heterogeneous networking. Future development concepts in heterogeneous networks.
